Slipping into the poisonous waters of the River Styx, I feel the black ice rush over me, knowing that a return to my former self might be impossible.
It feels like an inevitable and unstoppable descent into madness, as I am led to The River for an arranged marriage with society. I cling to my former self in the times before the realisation; innocent, pure and free spirited.
I hear my voice calling from the banks, convincing me to come back and bravely reconnect my mind and soul, but the noxious waters of The River smoulder in a tantalizing display, enticing me to enter.
Beware the mesmerising song of the Psychopomp, for their words are drenched in deceit as they lead you to the River. The hand of Hermes has cleverly delivered me to the Ferryman.
I drift aimlessly down The River towards the money hungry, corporate wasteland of the Underworld. Arriving at these sordid shores was my preordained destiny.
Western society has soured my soul. I seek the courage to come back ashore and lift this dark shadow, but the gravitational pull of Charon’s call keeps dragging me back.
Toxic words spewed from Charon’s mouth, as he gave the green light to gaslight. And I thanked him. And I paid my two obols and took his hand as he ferried me deeper into the mainstream.
I am the bones you couldn’t break. I will live through this invisible war and walk amongst you like a dark prince, wearing the sticks like battle scars, the stones as a crown and my eyes numbed to the atrocities they see.
